How to Become Happier

There are several methods that can make one live a happier, more fulfilling life. And it might not be easy, but it will be worth it. Some of these methods have been touched upon in some of my other pages in more detail. If you want to read some of those, feel free to click the links provided once I reach the particular topic. Let me tell you how to become happier.

Smile

Now, lets start off easy. One way on how to become happier is Smiling. When we smile the brain releases dopamine, endorphins and serotonin. These chemicals lower your anxiety and give you an increased feeling of happiness. They may even reduce pain. Amazing right? Our brains can release these chemicals to elevate our mood while we are sad or upset just by smiling. As they say, fake it until you make it does hold true in this instance. Not only can smiling brighten your mood, it can brighten someone else’s day. Spread the happiness. How to Become Happier by Showing Gratitude

Here is another fairly easy method. This is is easily forgotten, but can make an impact everywhere in everyone. Show gratitude and appreciation towards others. As much as you can, show gratitude towards those you care about or even strangers who open the door for you. Or a neighbor who waves at you everyday. Say “Thank you,” or tell your loved ones how much you care and appreciate them. Think about it, when you show gratitude to others, doesn’t it just make you smile? Doing something like this can make your life feel more fulfilling.

Another way, to make your life more fulfilling is by showing appreciation for your life and what you have. All you have to do is make a list of 10 things you are grateful for every day. It’s not easy for most to make this list. But it trains your brain to think positively. There was one case, that someone took things to the extreme. I forget for how long they did this, but in their head they would tell themselves things like: “I am thankful that the light turned on”; “I am thankful the elevator arrived”; “I am thankful to be breathing today”; “I am thankful that my car is working.” Things like that. Doing this they discovered there was a lot to be thankful for and were happier about the things they had. If you want to read more about this you can click here.

Don’t let what you can’t control bother you

As the heading states: Don’t let what you can’t control bother you. This can be difficult for a lot of people. Since everyone to a certain extent can be a bit controlling, it may be more difficult for some than others. But here’s the hard truth… You can’t control everything. The only thing that you can control are your own thoughts and actions. If you can understand this simple thing, your life will be much less stressful. When you know that not everything will go the way you want and you can’t make someone act a certain way, it really takes the burden off. This doesn’t mean it’s a cure-all and that you shouldn’t try to do or change things. You can slowly expand your “circle of influence” to better your life. Your “circle of influence” being what you can control. To read more about this you can click here.
