How to Stay Awake

Do you generally have trouble staying awake, or get tired after staring at a screen all day? Then this little tip can help you. Have you ever noticed that if your eyes are looking down for a long time you start to get sleepy? Well, the opposite is also true. If you take on a posture of your neck tilted slightly up with your eyes directed up and away, then it can help you stay awake. Now, you don’t have to look up with your neck tilted all the way back. But your eyes should be looking for a point on the ceiling slightly ahead of you. Stare at that point for about 10 seconds. This should trick your brain into staying awake. It will help when you need to stay alert.

If you have ever felt nervous before a job interview or presentation, then this can definitely help. This particular posture can help you feel more confident. It’s a great way to trick your brain into releasing chemicals that affect your confidence. All you need to do is assume a pose that you think confident people assume. Like the Wonder Woman pose, or putting your hands behind your head with your feet up on a table. You should hold this pose for 2 minutes. It may feel or look a bit ridiculous, but trust me. You will feel a lot better afterwards. Feel less nervous, more confident and bold.

You know that saying, “fake it ’til you make it?” It does work in a sense. When we are happy we smile. This is a natural response. When we are pumped because we won, we throw a victory fist into the air. It’s something we do because it is ingrained in us. That’s why, this simple posture works. If you are sad, upset, or unhappy try smiling. Just by smiling you can become happy. Really. When we are happy we release certain chemicals that make us feel good, and when we are happy we smile. This connection is why just by smiling we can become happy even when we were sad a moment ago. Interesting right? So fake it until you make it and just keep smiling.
