Travel Tips and Tricks

Travel used to be so easy. All you had to do was board a plane after checking in your bag. Now it’s checking in your baggage, making sure you didn’t bring something or other ounces of liquid in your carry-on, TSA screening of you and your carry-ons, and then finally waiting for your flight to arrive at your gate before boarding. Well, let me make your life easier with these helpful travel tips and tricks that I learned over the many years of travel experience.

Packing Tricks

There is only so much pack in so little time. But not anymore! When it comes to packing the easiest thing that almost everyone has done is forget to pack something. So, make a check list. Put it in your phone or write it down. Just create a general checklist of everything you’ll need for any trip. Like your toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush, medicine, keys, wallet, chargers, etc. I know some people carry their keys and wallets on their person, but that doesn’t mean they could not forget them in their haste to leave. Check things off as you start packing things away.

Here are some more travel tips. In order to make more room in your suitcase, roll up your clothes. By neatly rolling them up you can fit more in your suitcase. Kind of like when you roll your towels when you store them or bring them to the beach. One other thing you can do to make your life easier is start packing things early. So you don’t have to worry about forgetting anything, or having to rush, just start packing things slowly a week ahead of time. You’ll find that in doing so you remember things to bring or clothes you wish to wear. This allows for you to wash what you want to wear in time and pack.

Flying Tips

When you fly there is so much to consider. First, before even going to the airport make sure you check regulations. Each airline has different regulations for carry-ons and checked baggage. For example, Southwest Airlines says carry-ons must not have more than 3.5 fluid ounces, your suitcase cannot weigh more than 60 lbs (unless you want to pay fees), and you cannot bring mace/pepper spray in either your carry-on or checked bags. This will save you time in case you may have accidentally packed something like shampoo or hairspray in your carry-on as TSA will not allow you to have it in your carry-on. They will make you put it in your checked bags and make you go through the line again.

Let’s say you’re about to head out to the airport tomorrow. How much time should you make to get through everything? So, if you have a small, less busy airport that you are familiar with, then leaving 1.5-2 hours before boarding time is fine. If you are going to a big busy airport definitely leave 3 hours before your boarding time. Lines are always unpredictable so it’s best to get there early. Also, you never know if there was a gate change, a delay, or an early arrival.

Other Travel Tips and Tricks

So if you are ever expecting to stay at the airport for an extended period of time due to layovers or delays, bring an empty water bottle, or reusable water bottle, with you as there are water fountains you can use. Gotta stay hydrated. And save some money by not having to buy overpriced drinks. Remember that check list that I suggested? You can also reuse that list for when you plan to leave for your trip back home to make sure you didn’t forget anything.

And here’s one last little tidbit. There’s a great way to save on hotels, airline tickets, restaurants, and even cruises. If you travel a lot, then you should definitely check it out. Just click here to see for yourself.
