Solatorobo: the Red Hunter

This is a wonderful videogame for those who still like to play on the Nintendo DS. It has an excellent, beautiful soundtrack that can really set the mood for scenes within the game. And it has a great story. The name of this underrated DS game is “Solatorobo.”

Overview of Solatorobo

Solatorobo the red hunter

As I said before, the soundtrack is beautiful and the story is gripping. But it also has pretty good animation and artwork. Something that you might not have figured out while playing the game is that it is actually a sequel to a game call “Tail Concerto.” Now you don’t have to play “Tail Concerto” to be able to understand or play “Solatorobo,” but you can if you wish. On its own, “Solatorobo” is still a wonderful piece. It gives me the feeling of a storybook coming to life.

About the Game

This action role-playing game was made for Nintendo DS consoles. The game itself is set in what you could say is a steampunk fantasy setting with anthropomorphic cats and dogs. Our main character is Red, a freelance adventure who controls a small mecha to get jobs done. On one of his seemingly regular requests he becomes embroiled in something much larger. Forgive me, I’m trying not to give anything away. This is all I’m speaking of the plot.

Gameplay

Throughout the game there are opportunities to level up Red by defeating enemies and upgrade his mecha by using something called P. Crystals. There are many different elements within the game that allow one to slowly advance through the story. You must solve puzzles and defeat enemies to clear an area and move on. Along with the main narrative, you can (and should) complete the side quests to unlock more of the main storyline. These side quests include finding items, performing tasks for the townsfolk, and or completing minigames.

Last Words

So now you know a bit more about the game and the plot. I’ll have to say that the replay value of this game is not very high as there is nothing to gain by playing through again. However, I have replayed this game multiple times because that is how much I enjoyed the game. The wonderful storytelling and amazing music to accompany it… It’s just magical. I highly recommend giving “Solatorobo: the Red Hunter” a shot.
