What it’s Like to Use an Airbnb

Let me mention for a second that I haven’t used many airbnbs, but I have been to a couple and I just wish to impart some of my impressions and tips with you. Now when I traveled to use these airbnbs I traveled with over 7 other people. Just to let you know what kind of airbnb I was using and what kinds I will be discussing. So relatively large bnbs.

First Impressions

Majority of the time, my first impressions of the outside of the bnb are not always the best. The front of the houses didn’t really give me the feeling that everything was well kept or welcoming. I know that’s not always the point, but it’s first impressions for those coming to stay, you’d think it’d look a bit better. And for one of the airbnbs that I stayed at, there wasn’t really any parking at the front of the house. We’d have to circle the neighborhood to find a parking spot. That was something we weren’t expecting. Not to mention the neighborhood itself seemed kinda sketchy.

Inside the Airbnbs

Once inside the airbnbs my first impressions improved. The inside of the airbnbs that I stayed in were clean and well kept. There were major differences between the places that I stayed in however. So don’t always expect one to have what another may have had. For example, plates and silverware that you can use. Or toilet paper for that matter. Really. One of the airbnbs that I stayed in did not have toilet paper. As funny as that sounds, it was around 12 am in the morning when we arrived and there was no toilet paper.

Now, I traveled with a large group to these airbnbs to help split the cost as it was cheaper than a hotel. The problem of traveling to an airbnb with a group of my size, usually 8 or more people, everyone generally had to bunk together or sleep on a couch. Which was the problem. When an airbnb says it can fit over 6 people it means how many can actually fit. Not how many get a bed.

What to Expect and Tips when using an Airbnb

So the knowledge I would like to share with you may be limited and pertain only to a small group of airbnbs. But I believe that even knowledge like this could be useful for those who use an airbnb in general.

First, if you are traveling in a large group like I was, don’t always expect there to be a bed for everyone. They may say they can fit up to 10-12 people, but that just means someone is sleeping on the couch or floor. Second, always expect to go shopping for necessities like water, or maybe toilet paper. Third, you should bring your own towels. Not every airbnb will provide you with towels you can use after a shower. Also, if you can, try to be aware of the neighborhood you’ll be staying in. You may have trouble parking or the neighborhood may not be all that safe.
