There are so many board games out there for the family to enjoy. And you don’t need a battery for these. No electronics required. Sometimes you just want to spend time with the family without all the gadgets and gizmos. If you wish to kick it old school, but wish to try something new that isn’t Monopoly, then you should give these 3 board games for the family a try!

Arkham Horror

So, Arkham Horror is a cooperative game. This sets it apart from most other games that usually pit players against each other. No one has to feel bad in this game if you know someone who can be a bit of a sore loser. Ahem. Me. This game is a team effort to prevent the Ancient One from crossing over into our world.

3 board games for the family

Everyone is to close gates that lead to other dimensions while defeating monsters, learning skills, acquiring weapons, discovering allies, and gaining new spells. This game is filled with things to do with only so little time. With everything that needs to be done before the Ancient One arrives, it can feel like a lot. But if you can’t happen to keep the Ancient One back, your last chance will be to face it head on.

This game was made for up to 8 players. And was not made for young ones as this game can be a bit complicated. The rules may be hard to grasp at first because there are quite a few rules. But there are difficulty levels that you can choose from. So if you are new to the game and just learning you can pick an easy route to play. Or if you are more experienced then you can pick a more difficult route. Also, this game is made to last for a long time as play time could be 2-4 hours. So have fun and make sure to have a bathroom break once in a while. It’s just one of 3 great board games if your goal is to spend a Lot of time with the family.

Settlers of Catan

3 board games for the family

Settlers of Catan is a very fun board game. It can even give you the same feelings as Sorry or Monopoly. As the name implies, the settlers (players) are new to the land of Catan and are trying to settle on this undeveloped land. In order to develop this land you need resources. These resources will help you build roads, settlements, and cities. But do beware of other players as they may prevent you from building roads to where you need and what not. There’s a lot to be aware of as things may go wrong.

This game was made for 3-6 players and is fairly easy to play. The rules are easy to grasp so you can easily get the hang of it in no time. The play time of this game can go from about an hour to two. So it’s not a long game. But it is just enough time to have a good time with the family and friends. And if you happen to enjoy this game a lot there are a Ton of expansion packs. So you can add something new or change it up every so often. I highly recommend this great game for the family.

Ticket to Ride

3 board games for the family

Ticket to Ride is the simplest game out of the 3 board games I recommend for the family. With the simple rules of the game it can be learned in under 15 minutes. The goal is get the most points by the time all routes have been taken. In order to get points you must claim railway routes, and can earn bonus points by fulfilling Destination Tickets. There are just 3 actions one can take in the game each turn: draw more cards, claim a route, or get more Destination Tickets. Easy right? Just be careful of other players cutting you off. It happens a lot.

This game is made for 2-5 players. And as I stated before, very easy to learn and play. The play time for this game is even shorter than that for Settlers of Catan. It’s 30 minutes to an hour. For those who may have a short attention span this could be perfect. In addition, there are several different editions of this game available that may add new elements to the game you already know. So definitely give this game a try!
