There are many different ways to train pokemon. Now, there is a proper way, so let me teach you how to train pokemon the best way there is. If you don’t feel like going through the effort of breeding you don’t have to. However, if you are interested, then feel free to read up on how to breed pokemon here. That is the first step to superior pokemon.
So, let me first explain IVs and EVs. Then we can move on to items that can help with training and stats. IV stands for “individual values” and EV for “effort values.” The difference between them is that IVs are like a pokemon’s genetics, you can’t change them as it is what they are born with. EVs are something that you can influence by battling certain pokemon or using certain items. Since IVs cannot be influenced with training we will forgo any further explanation. They do however pertain to breeding. Click here if you are interested in breeding pokemon.
EV Training
There is lots to take in about EVs, but I’m going to do my best to simplify it for you. So, when it comes to EV training, there is a limit for how much you can EV train a pokemon. Each pokemon has a maximum limit of 510 EV points that it can obtain in total. And any pokemon stat can be maxed out at 252 EV points. If you try to put more than 252 EV towards any one stat, the stat will not increase further, but the EV points gained will still count. Another thing you should know is that for every 4 EV points in one stat will increase the base stat of that pokemon by one. (Example: 4 EV points = 1 base stat point)
By battling certain pokemon or using certain items, one can gain EV points for a certain stat. For example, battling a Patrat would give all Pokémon that participated in the battle +1 EV to Attack. If your pokemon battle 4 Patrat, your pokemon will gain +1 Attack base stat point. In order to check your pokemon’s EV stats in Pokemon Scarlet or Violet, you can check on your pokemon’s stat screen and it will be the solid yellow color (not the faded yellow). If an EV stat is maxed out, it will sparkle. Now if you want to figure out what pokemon to battle to receive certain EV stats, then you will have to look that up online elsewhere. Feel free to try Serebii to see the most information. Every game requires battling different pokemon for different stats.
Pokemon Items
If you started battling with a pokemon and didn’t pay attention to its EV training, don’t worry. There is something for that. In order to reset the EV stats you can use certain berries. Here is a chart for you.
And when you are ready to get started on EV training without having to battle pokemon you can use other means. Like using Vitamins or Wings. As seen below.
Or if you choose to battle pokemon and gain EVs the hard way, there is a method of speeding up this process. You can use power items. Check below.
Let me tell you now, there is a lot more that you can do to EV train your pokemon. However, these methods are for older pokemon generations. Hopefully this guide has helped you train your pokemon to be the very best. Good luck out there and become the greatest Pokemon Master!
